Hello everyone. I am 41 and DH and I have been TTC for 1 and 1/2 years. About 6 months ago, I went on Optifast (doctor-monitored, at least part is covered by my insurance) and so far I have lost 36 pounds. Ideally, I have 30 more to lose, but I'm still pleased with my weight-loss results. I also exercise now, at least 2 or 3 times a week.
My OB-GYN, however, was not happy about the very low calorie diet, and said that it could interfere with conception. She said that to sustain a pregnancy, you only need 300 more calories than you needed before. A sensible diet would be better in her opinion. I think she is a good doctor, but it's hard to decide what to do when sensible doesn't equal weight loss.
I enjoy exercise, but I wonder if there's a problem with exercise very early in pregnancy. Can vigorous exercise interfere with implantation? If anyone knows, please let me know.

Hello Everyone,
This is my first time using this site so bear with me. I'm 32 and me and DH have been TTC for 3yrs. I have had a lot of medical problems over the past 2yrs but by the grace of God I overcame them. I am 40lbs overweight and I am disable so I am limited to exercise and physical activity. I 'm determined not to let my situation get the best of my spirit. I would like anyone reading to give me any suggestions on what diets would be good for me to lose this weight and help me get back to the old Pat. I want to concieve so bad that it depresses me when I hear other people around me that are PG. Someone reading please help.

Love & Peace

Hello everyone! I am very new to this so forgive me if I ask alot of questions! I am 23 years old and my husband and I have been married 3 1/2 years. We have used no protection for a year and a half now. We both want a baby and it seems that we are having no luck! I bought a Basal Thermometer last night and we have decided to try that. We have tried to time everything with trying to predict our most fertile days and so forth. Nothing is seeming to work! My husband has however quit smoking, thinking that this may be part of our problem. Any suggestions? Thanks for taking time to read this!

Christina - I have PCOS as well, so I know how you are feeling. It is pretty trying sometimes, isn't it! I am about 20 lbs overweight right now and have been TTC for over seven months now. I am not heavier because I started not mixing my protein and carbohydrates. It seems to work, but slowly. And Kristina -- I had a friend in her 40's who went to Weight Watchers and through the point system lost over 25 lbs in a very reasonable amount of time. Good luck to both you ladies and everyone else here!

Hello ladies! I'm BACK! I'm just about finished with my anitbiotics for the bronchitis and sinus infection I caught at Christmas time. I haven't been doing the Atkins thing for several months as dh was giving me a hassle. He thinks it's too unbalanced and causeing problems for him. Well, I'm going back on it come Heck or highwater and attempting to exercise as well.

Also, since I have PCOS I went and talked to my Family doc about the problems I've had with the weight. He agreed to put me on Gluphanage to help out. He said he was doing this because he'd known me almost 20 years (since I was 9, I'm 28 now) and he knew he could trust me. He was worried about giving it to new patients because, since he's not using the drug in the FDA approved way - he could get into a lot of trouble if someone reported him. He has 3 other ladies on it now, but only 1 person has shown results. She told him that it helped cut down on her cravings for food and the constant eating. I have these same problems and I feel that, while it may not cure me, it will certainly help with some of the symptoms and possibly help me lose some weight.

Wish me luck! I'm going to need all I can get! :)

Love and Hugs,
ChristineM

What does PCOS stand for???? And is drinking two cups of green tea a day ok, or should I just stick to one?

Hello ladies,
This is my first time posting to this site. I've been posting on the main db for about two months. I am so depressed because of my weight. I am about 50lbs. over weight and feel helpless to do anything about it. I 've tried ever diet known..The only one that really worked was SugarBusters, but its hard for me to do it alone. DH doesn't have a weight problem so he doesn't understand.

Is there someone who is following the SugarBusters Program and wouldn't mind an accountability buddy. I could really use the help. My estrogen level is at 96. RE says it should be at 70. She believes this may be effecting our ttc.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know if this is the spot to add this - but I am really frustrated. We've started to TTC - It's been five months - the last couple of months I had had the worst case of acne in my entire life - probably my body getting used to not being on the pill the last ten years - But this is brutal- any suggestions on what I can take or use - very limiting when you are TTC. Help!!!

I know that I have to lose this weight but looking for ideas of how too. Does a person weight gain have a lot to do with why she might not be PG yet? HELP!! I'm lost right now!!

Lisa, PCOS stands for PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome. It's a disease that can include all or some of the following symptoms: abnormal cycles, hirtuism (increased body and facial hair), acne, infertility, excess weight, insulin resistance, and of course the polycystic ovaries (small ring of cysts that form in the ovary). PCOS can be diagnosed w/ a few blood tests and/or ultrasound. For more information, visit http://www.pcosupport.org/.

Hello everyone !

Sept 1998 I married the most incredible guy. I had without trying reached the lowest weight I have weighed since elementary school. On our honeymoon my husband and I decided to start a TTC right away. During the past year I have gained a good 30lbs. I feel like a blimp. To add to my depression, I am still not pregnant. I know there are a great deal of factors that are into play here...my cycle is irregular...stress of starting a new job...but I truly believe one of the main problems is my sudden weight gain. Now I have seriously been trying to loose weight but nothing seems to work. I want to continue eating healthy but at the same time cut down my portions to loose weight. I'm not very good about knowing what vitamins and minerals are important to have in a diet especially when TTC. Are any of you following or have followed a diet that has worked and helped to prepare your bodies for pregnancy ? I could really use some advance here !

Hi, I'm also new and TTC. I'm curious, what is PCOS? Also, I heard from a friend who tried the Atkins diet that it causes your urine to smell bad. Is this true? Do you feel OK on it? I'm just wondering because it seems like burning protein without carbs would put a big strain on your system. Thanks, Lisa

Well, I lost 30 lbs on Atkins in 3 weeks! It feels great to fit into those pants again that I was saving 'just in case'. Then, there was Labor Day camping weekend (really hard to do no carbs w/ roasted marshmallows around) and I've kinda hit a plateau right now. I've started eating more carbs (I was so totally strict during those 3 weeks) but I am still really watching them. I'll allow myself no more than about 20 grams a day. I'm O'ing for the first time since I got off the pill 4 1/2 yrs ago!!! I don't think it's due to the diet, (new meds from the dr. for me this month) but who knows?
Christine - those afternoon snackies are awful, aren't they? Try picking up some beef jerky or mixed nuts, or 5 small water crackers - those have some carbs, but waaay less than chocolate! Walking is also a good idea - I realize 1/2 the time that I want snacks in the pm is because I'm bored, or waiting for work to end for the day.
Also, those of you on Atkins - the pancakes recipe isn't too bad...but I personally wouldn't say the same for the bread. LOL And, in the book, he says that after a few days of strict induction eating, you don't want carbs - he's absolutely right! Chips didn't even look good 3 days into this diet when my DH was eating them in front of me. So, hang in there ladies!
Good luck!!

Hi everyone, how have you all been doing?

Just to update, I have been doing really, really well and have lost 5kg (sorry do not know pounds) and I feel excellent for it. Thank god for Weight Watchers!

ChristineM I use to have the afternoon chocolate craving and what I did was eat a cold orange cut up into bite size pieces. It fills you up and takes your mid of the chocolate. Also another tip if you are able to go for hour walk this also takes your mind of it and gives you excercise at the same time.

I hope this helps you as it worked for me.

Good luck, Cheers Fi

If I get up any earlier to make breakfast, I won't be able to function at work. I don't know what to do about it. Please give me any advice you think would work, or let me know what you've done to lose the weight on this diet.

Hello all! I'm BACK!! (Twilight Zone music fills the air)

Had a great time on vaca. (that's on the main db) and ready to start my new eating plan! Dh and I are going to start tomorrow with the Atkin's Diet - the 14 day Induction stage. I went to the store and got meat, and salad stuff and cooking veggies. I really think this is the thing that'll work for me and dh.

It seems healthy and the food is good, and stuff I like. SusanE, don't feel too bad about that Carbs thing, I'm not happy about it, and neither is my hubby. But you gotta do what you gotta do! If either of us needs help, let's yell! The only way to do this thing and do it right, is to do it in a group. My dh is so great, he really wants to help and is very supportive. I hope that your's is the same (only hoping because I don't know him and he maybe the greatest person for you).

I'm here if you need me, and I know you all are here if I need you.

Good luck to us all, and sending Love and Hugs to you all,

OMG!!! YOU GUYS!!!! I just signed on - and haven't been here in Fit and Fertile for a while... but the other day was doing some research on PCOS, and found The Adkins Diet... bought the book (and another with food counts) and started reading... then came here and found out YOU GUYS ARE DOING IT TOOO!!!! LOLOLOL!! this Must be a *sign* that this should be a "go"!!

Christine, like you, I am still reading. But, have cut back on carbos. I am really sad that I need to cut my carbo-ness, since those are the foods that I crave... but maybe I crave them because my body isn't getting what it needs to function at its best.

Finding out that you all are beginning this program, too, has inspired me!! THIS IS SOOOO UNCANNY!!!

BEST OF LUCK TO US ALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

For all you who are abstaining from Carbohydrates for diet reasons, I have a bit to add. Celiac disease is a digestive disorder most common among peopleof Northern Eurpean descent. One of the symptoms of this disease (not in all cases) is infertility. Celiac disease is a sensitivity to a protien in wheat. Cut out starches/carbs and you are most certainly cutting out wheat, and maybe the infertility as a bonus. As your doctor(s) for help

Hi all! I went to see my gen. prac. last night to talk to him about the PCOS link to Type II diabetis and using the Atkins "Diet". He said that he's studied the Atkins method and it seems to make a lot of sence to him (especially with the links to diabetes and what he knows of the PCOS). He just cautioned me to drink LOTS of water when on this healthy eating plan. He also said that there is a weird link between rapid weight loss and Gall Bladder stones.

So, those of us who are doing a rapid weight loss program safely (of which the Atkins is from what I understand of the program right now) keep and eye out for any thing that seems weird, and keep your doc in the loop so nothing serious happens.

I have not yet started the Atkins Diet, I want to read the book in it's entirety and then start as I will have all the info and not be doing something wrong. Also, I'm going on vacation this weekend, and who wants to START a diet when they're going away?! :0) Not me!

Wish me luck in this, I'm not good at changing things in my life too often (scares me too much). I'm hoping that this eating plan will work for me and dh (he wants to lose a few pounds as well).

Love and Hugs,
ChristineM

OK..sorry for the double-post but, I stopped on my scale this morning, and I have lost 10 pounds in a week!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm soooooooo excited! I've tried hundreds of diets, and even tried starving myself for 3 months, and I've never lost 10 lbs! I was eating small amounts of things, but I was eating the wrong kids of things. If you look closely at labels, the low-fat foods have more carbs than their 'regular' foods! I just had to share the news! Good luck to all!!!

OK...I'm back from vacation! And do I have something to share with you ladies! I've been doing a lot of fertility research recently and I suspect that I have PCOS, which I will hopefully confirm/deny on Friday. Anyway, I have read from numerous sources that if someone has PCOS, a low-carbohydrate diet really helps balance out their system. So, I decided, what the heck? So, I picked up "Dr. Atkins Revolutionary New Diet" book and started reading. I really like this diet - it really makes sense to me! Carbs, not fat is what creates sugar and turns into fat. I have been on this diet for 4 days, and have lost 4 lbs! You can eat as much as you want of no-carb foods. Eat all the meat, fish, eggs and most cheeses you want. Plus a small salad a day. This diet isn't hard for me because I'm not hungry. I made beef jerky for me to munch on during the day, made sugar-free jello and whipping cream for something sweet, and have wonderful turkey, chicken and lots of steaks! I really feel like I can do this one! Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to share. If anyone else is doing this, please let me know and we can compare notes. :-)
Good luck today ladies!

Hi all! Love the new format - way cool! I've been being bad, no exercise and eating crappy food! I am going to call my doc today because I found out about a link to adult onset type II diabetes and PCOS (only if your weight is out of control). I don't want that so I'm going to have him refer me to a nutritionist for a specific eating plan for me and dh (he could stand to lose a few as well :)

Welcome back SusanE and Jewel! Glad you two had fun! We're going to Ohio at the end of the month to see the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame, Geauga Lake and SeaWorld! I can't wait!

I'm back from vacation... ate and drank bad bad fatting things, but had a **great** time. DTD alot - just like old times - and NO temperatures!!! :)

But, now back to real life... where I need to start a religious fitness program and watch what I eat. I have 2 weeks before starting back to work (at school), so I'd like to get a nice jump start - and fit into my jeans.

Wish me luck, guys, I"m gonna need it!!!!!

I did something fun tonight that I wanted to tell you all about. I tried on my wedding dress!! I was a size 22 bride when I got married last year. Now, a year and -30# (that's about 13kg) later, I just had to try it on and see. The darn thing was huge! I felt so wonderful. I decided that when I reach my goal weight, I'm going to take it to a seamstress and have it redone for my new figure. I love the dress and can't stand the thought of not being able to wear it ever again. Okay, so I'll leave a little extra room for getting older.

Well, we went to the ren. fair and had some fun, but I got a headache near the end and was pretty miserable to dh. Poor guy, I don't know how he puts up with me!

Since I started this board, I've GAINED 5lbs! Ugh! and dh gave me the "talk" last night. He wants me to go down 35lbs by Christmas or else! Now he didn't say what the or else would be, but I don't wanna find out.

He won't leave me or anything, he's just very worried about my health. He doesn't want to lose me in twenty-five years. I wish I could get a handle on this weight thing, and really be able to do it on my own.

He also says that I'm obsessing about this whole ttc thing, and that I need to calm down. I do try to be calm, but it gets inside my head and there's no stopping it.

Help! Any suggestions for me? I can't do it on my own, I've proven that soon enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hello everyone!! Christina - congrats on your job!
I have been staying busy... not been on computer as much - which is a *good* thing!!

Went to the driving range with dh last night... first time ever holding a golf club... definately chalking that up as exercise!! But enjoyed the heck out of it!! Will go back soon.

Lost about 2 lbs... I think keeping busy has been the most beneficial.

Well, Keep on keepin on! And, yes, Scarlett... tomorrow is another day!!

Well, I'm not going to get to exercise tonight - dh declared it cleaning night! LOL! I have been drinking about 77oz of water a day for 3 or 4 days now, so I hope this will help.

We are going to the rennesance fair on Sunday and it's pretty hilly so I should get SOME exercise! :0) I'm basiclly being lazy and not working out like I should. I hate that, but I'm used to it. I'm trying to be good, but it's very hard for me to change my comfort food habits.

Oh well, tomorrow is another day! (shades of Scarlett O'Hara, giggle giggle)

Well, I didn't go to class again - too hot and I was too tired from the heat. I just want the heat to stop! Ugh! One of the girls who lives near me and I are going to try to meet and walk around a lake in our area. I'm going to ask CherylB to join us as well. If the heat breaks soon then it will be easier to do. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait and see!

Well, I have that third job! I start on Aug. 9th! Yeah! You're next Kristi!

I have my exercise class tonight, but I don't feel like going, AF is giving cramps again :(. I was hoping that since I was 3 days late that maybe it would be good news. I guess it was just all of the stress.

Dh cooked last night and it seemed ok healthy eating wise. It was noodles, onions, ground chicken (instead of beef), tomato soup & paste, water and cheese. It was so good I had it for lunch! Yum!

Gotta go, wish me luck in going to class tonight!

Well, I think I did pretty good today. I had a low fat granola bar for b-fast, low-fat soup for lunch w/ a couple of crackers and rice and stirfry for dinner. I'm not much of a drinker but at least I changed the soda to water last weekend and haven't had caffeine since then either. It's amazing how much better I'm sleeping now too! I really didn't think I'd notice, since I can drink 5 cups of coffee and go straight to sleep. But, no more caffeine for me!

Good morning everyone!! Deciding to get "serious" about my wt. and health is one thing... actually doing it is quite another... but I am in desparate need to.

I am pledging to get back on the diet that has worked for me before (ww) and follow the plan as closely as I can, because my shorts are too tight, I can't afford new ones, we have 3 weeks before vacation and I want to feel good about myself during that trip, and I am concerned that a pg and more wt gain may effect my blood pressure (no probs now, but a strong family history)... so I have got to just do it and stop thinking about it.

Here's my stragedy: write down what I'm eating - watch my points... drink water as much as possible... do some type of physical activity everyday - walk, tae*bo, swim, yoga - I have lots of choices so I shouldn't get bored. I will check into this board everyday (if I can) and record wt. loss/gain every Monday and Friday.

Ok, there. Its in writing. Now to apply it all. Wish me luck, ladies.

Thanks for all of your support!! Good luck to us all!!!

Hi Krista, Jewel, et. all!

I had two interviews yesterday, the first one looks more like the one that I want than the 2nd being that the 2nd is about 45mins from my house with heavy construction most of the way. They also only wanted to give me the bare minimum to start. I ate fast food for lunch and dinner since I had an interview during each and didn't get to pack lunch or cook dinner (I got home around 8pm) and I didn't exercise becaue my pantyhose gave me a serious brush burn. It was very strange and I couldn't walk very well by the time I got to the 2nd interview.

So you can see why I didn't exersice yesterday - it hurt to much to do anything! ;)

I feel better today, and we have lots schedualed to do with it being my mom-in-law's b.day today, my dad's was yesterday and there is a suprise party for a friend whose b.-day was the 15th.

I should get some exercise before we leave, if the brush burn is feeling good enough, otherwise I will try to do some when I get home.

Krista,
Very good luck on that interview that lasted entirely to long. Sending +++++++++++++++++++ vibes and luck out the wazoo! :)

Love and Hugs all around,

Christine! Great with the bike! I didn't get to my walk, either, Kristi, because I was out with DH helping him rake hay (yes, I was driving the tractorLOL)ANYWAY...

Everyone sounds like they are feeling better: Proactive, that's how we have to stay!!

Kristi: FYI... according to the Weight Watcher's point system EVERYTHING counts as some type of activity... and in my HUMBLE opinion, when you do activity that gets *something accomplished* like yard work, cleaning the house, mopping, planting flowers, etc... you feel *even better*. I do anyway.

Well, I'm starting a new day with Orange Juice and toast with a little jam. (that Heiners 35 bread is GREAT... two pieces is the equivalent of one regular piece of bread).

Take care - Have a ***great*** day!!!

Kristid:

Go back to bed! Get some sleep or you'll never be able to work out today!

I would count yard work as exercise, it's always giving me a backache or pulling some muscles. So that counts in this game as far as I care.

I'm going to have my exercise class today - 1 hour of tortchure this evening. Yippie.

Also, wish me luck with my job interview tomorrow. If I get this job (it's only the 1st interview, but still) then I will be getting more money which will be much less stress on me. This will help me to be more careful of what I eat and making sure I exercise. The more stress I'm under the worse my eating habits. It's a food for comfort thing that I'm working on.

Any way, gotta go for now I'll let you know how the class goes!

Remeber to take each day as it comes and each day will get easier.

WOW, lots of support here! I feel some what better already. That CherylB is great! She's the one who told me to come here because we are both having a very hard time ttcing.

I had the leftovers from lastnight's dinner for lunch today which was a cheese steak sandwich with tomatoes and onions (good and raw!) with mac-n-cheese w/cut up hotdogs (from yesterday's lunch). It wasn't the best, but it was very filling considering there was only 1/2 a sandwich and maybe 3/4 cup mac-n-cheese with 1 hotdog. I also had a pepsi (not diet because I can't stand the taste). I guess that's ok, not the best to eat but I've had worse.

I don't know if a large breakfast or lunch will work just based on my hunger pains in the evening. I have a hard time eating a lot in the early part of the day, and tend to be able to eat more later in the day. It can't hurt to try and change it though, so I will give it a shot tomorrow. I just have to figure out how to tell dh the good news! :0)

Christine, I too am a carbohydrate freak. One thing I tried when I was on Sugarbusters (which I'm not necessarily recommending) was whole wheat pasta, whole grain bread and sweet potatos. Its so great to have this site --oh how I can relate. TTC #3 but have always had a weight problem. Years ago(10) I did lose weight on the weight watchers program...right before conceiving dd But now I'm having no luck at all. I'm told part of this is due to my thyroid problems but I also know I am a terrible (not healthy--i dont like veggie) eater. I can seem to get the energy up or the motivation to exercise but you guys have inspired me so I will try again--taking one day at a time.

Hi Ladies - I just discovered this area of TTC. I wanted to give you some support and encouragement. I have been in your position. I am small boned, 5'5" tall, and used to weight 160lbs. I now weigh around 125lbs. much closer to my ideal weight of 120! Anyway, I lost the weight by exercising, but nothing strenuous - biking and walking mostly. Also, I cut down on my proportions, ate less fatty foods such as hamburgers, fries, pizza, etc. Remember you just have to set your mind to it and don't expect to lose the weight right away. If you want to eat things that are not so good for you, eat smaller portions AND eat a salad, fruit, or veggie with it. For example, yesterday DH wanted BBQ'ed hamburgers. I had a 1/4 lb burger with no cheese along with corn on the cob with no butter or salt on it and a small portion of low fat macaroni salad. Unfortunately, I didn't get to exercise yesterday, but will today. Try to exercise every other day at first even if it is just a short walk. I hope you all don't g e t discouraged and keep on trying! I would like to get to my 120 lbs goal so I'm still trying to lose as well. Good luck to you all and please feel free to email me for anything!

OH, Christine... I can relate to the cooking thing... its just two of us, too, and My dh (as great as he is) has HORRIBLE eating habits... It is difficult to eat healthy because I am essentially preparing two meals: his and mine. It really stinks. I wish I had a solution for you... I'm looking for one myself!LOL! I buy different bread, I buy different cheese, etc, etc. And, like you, I'm a starch-a-holic. Very difficult to get away from it.

One idea for you, with being tired in the evening... could you make Breakfast the big meal? or lunch? then sandwich it for dinner? I know it sounds like reverse... but, truthfully, Americans have it backwards... Dinner shouldn't be our heaviest meal. Just a suggestion.

Another pitfall I tumble into is that dh works till dark (or after) so dinner is usually really late... 8 or 9:00!! Too late to be eating. I've been trying to eat earlier, but again, that's twice the work. UGH! What a pain, huh!!

So, you are BY FAR not alone in these things... but we will find some little ways to work around them!

Hoping everyone has a great day... I'm putting tae*bo in now... If I can breath when I'm done, I'll let you know.
~Susan

Hello SusanE, Jewell, et. all!

I didn't exercise yesterday like I said I would, but Susan told me to not worry about my yesterdays - so I won't. I talked to my therapist about this (exercising) and he said that with the people he's worked with, the ones that kept the weight off did so by exercising every day. I was a little put off by that, but he said it's a matter of knowing what to expect in order to be successful.

I try to eat breakfast every morning and usually have either a bowl of cereal or a bagel with jam with decaf. I know that part of the problem (besides the PCOS) is that I eat too much starch and don't really eat full meals.

Any ideas on how to cut out so much starch? My dh and I will often times just eat mac-n-cheese for dinner, or something equally as bad. I get very tired in the PM (my depression) and have a hard time cooking a full meal. It is also hard to cook for just 2 people when there are so many left overs that you get sick of looking at them for lunch and dinner for 3 nights.

Anyway, any suggestions on how to increase the healthy eater inside that refuses to cook? ;0)

Luck, Love and Hugs to us all,

Goodmorning everyone!! Today is the first day of our "trek for healthiness" - I like that, Jewel!! - so I am starting the day with some fruit and a new attitude!!

I've dug out my WW point scale and will record my points.

For me, I have to take it *one* day at a time... we may have good ones and bad ones... but we will always have each other to relate and *M*O*T*I*V*A*T*E!!
So, Best of Luck to everyone for a wonderful Day!!!
Will post this evening, ~Susan :)

Just some advise for you all, you should eat breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day, it helps get your metabolism started which is very important for losing weight. For mid morning snack have fruit, it you want something sweet go for a finger bun, no butter as it is bread and the icing on top is not much to worry about. For lunch a salad roll or sandwhich with fruit. And for dinner keep it light and healthy ie pasta with red sauce, sirfrys, steamed vegi's with light cheese and all purpose seasoning is great. I hope this help, but remember you are not on a diet you are changing your eating habits. If you say diet, it will never work. Good luck to you all as I am going back to these rules after putting on 1-2 kg (sorry do not no pounds).

I use to walk every morning, winter came and it got to cold, however I have started back to the gym 2-3 times a week and will start walking again soon, when it gets warmer. Oh I also play netball - train 1 day and play 1 day.

I think this site is great for everyone as we all can share our ideas and experiences.

I also know the Weight Watcher points system works. I am a life member and swear by it.

Hey, ladies!!! I am trying out this posting spot:
this evening I tried on last summers shorts that I could not even button *UGH*** Made me feel HORRIBLE!!! But I am glad that now we can come here and post our feelings and thoughts on how to get more fit/healthy!!
Here's what I am going to do... come here in the evening time and post my *plan* for the next day and accomplishments that day toward my goal of a healthier lifestyle!! Here goes my first one:

My Accomplishments Today: I drank 2.5 liters of water today. I walked to the barn. I parked in a "far" space instead of a close one at Krogers (seems silly, but every little thing counts!!).

Tomorrow I Plan To:
Drink 2.5-3 liters of water. Attempt my tae*bo workout. Walk in the evening.

I think that if we all start with the little things and make realistic steps, we will be living healthier lifes in no time... and the wt will take care of itself.
++vibes!! ~Susan

Anliki, from what I understand a little bit of exercise while pregnant is just fine. I mean you might wanna lay off doing the high impact aerobics..but as far as walking, even jogging its not gonna "shake" the baby loose. Embryos ( if there is no other medical problem found or recurrent miscarriages a factor) are very snug as little bugs in a rug in the womb. They are attached quite firmly..
Put it this way, it gets more vibrations walking to a mail box than even having sex...so it takes alot to shake those lil babies outta there.
I say check with your doctor if you are pregnant and find out if its ok for you to go ahead and do certain exercises..and even see if there is a regimen that he/she can put you on.

Can exercise prevent implantation? Will kicking and jumping about cause a fertlized to come loose? How does age factor in? I'm 40.

I just found out that I am going to have a baby in Oct. I am very excited. I work out 4-5 a week. My dh keeps me going. I am very early in the PG and sometimes I feel tired. We go in the PM. and then come home & eat. I do cardio about 45-60mins & I do free weights. Is there anything I should saty away from?

I have been on and off of Jenny Craig for about 11 months. I really like it, although it can get costly. They taught me to eat 3 "real meal" a day plus 3 snacks. I no eat breakfast and have milk (no fat) 2x a day. Hopefully this is preparing me for motherhood (milk thing).
I also exercise everyday- 40 minutes walking or incumbent bike and lkift weights 2 x a week for 1 hour. Love it!

I'm 5'4" or so and weigh about 107lbs. I dont think I'm underweight.. I'm just "small-boned".. ha! anyway, i've been ttc x 10 mos and some people have suggested that gaining a little weight would actually increase fertility. Anyone have any ideas or comments on that?

I have a question about being fit and fertile while ttc. Although I'm
no elite athlete, I'm concerned that jogging 15 miles a week and lifting weights
for an hour three times a week might be too much. I've had one misscarriage and doubt it was
related, BUT HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH? The other board says 'strenuous' excersice reduce ovulation.
I don't want to 'let myself go' - but ttc is my main priority. Please advise!!!

I have gained 10 lbs. since April when I had my 1st m/c. I have just started back on a fitness regime that I'm hoping will help shed the 10 lbs. I wanted to start something that I could maintain throughout pg. I am doing 35 minutes of stairmaster/day and I hope to add some weights in a couple of weeks. We'll see how it goes, but I definitely feel like I have more energy when I stick to the program!

I had put on about 15 pounds since I came to this country. It was the combination of food and being less active. In summer -98 I started jogging and using my old rolleblades again and got rid of a few pounds. However, I could not keep up the routine without DH. And he didn't have the TIME and ENERGY to jog with because his busy work schedule. So as fall came closer, sure enough, the pounds were back. But the best thing to lose weight for me was to get our puppy! We got him in the end of September and just three weeks later I had lost about ten pounds. I just take him for a long walk every day for about an hour or so and that does it! I can fit into my 501's again without them being disgustingly tight. And having the dog in the house, I just can't have a day when I don't 'feel' like going for a walk. I know I have to! It's for the sake of him and his well-being. And a frisk walk every day keeps me energetic too.

Ok, a couple of good tips for anyone trying to monitor the amount of fat and/or calories
in your diet. First tip: the George Foreman yadda yadda yadda grillin' machine.
My DH LOVES this machine and I think he would actually USE it! So that may be
a good post-baby tip for when you don't feel like cooking. It also helps to
get as much of the fat out of meat as you possibly can (and it's really quick!).

Second tip: ginger ale! I LOVE this stuff. I'm a soda-holic and I don't want
to completely give up my Dew, but there's just waaay too many calories in a can
to kid myself into thinking I can drink the stuff like water. Ginger ale is
fairly low in calories, has no caffeine, but it till has that fizz that soda
has. Put a squeeze of lemon in it or even mix it half & half with some fruit
juice (gets some vitamins & cuts the calories of the juice).

My best friend bought me one of Richard Simmons' cookbooks for Christmas and I
love his philosophy: "It has to taste good!" If it doesn't taste good, why
eat it? That's how you end up gaining a bunch of weight back after you diet.

Good luck!

Exercise? It's a four-letter word (not really). I keep telling myself to get out
my roller blades (which I just HAD TO HAVE), go jogging, do something.... but I don't.
So, I just ordered Taebo and DH and I will do that (until we get board). I talked to
someone that has done it, she said she got addicted to learning the martial arts moves
after her house was broken into and couldn't stop once she got started. She has done
Taebo for 6 months now. I hope that works for me. I have a hard time exercising for
no reason (just biking or walking and going nowhere), so I am hoping that this will
be the exercise I enjoy and learn from. I used to do country line dancing (not
for exercise, but for fun) and lost 10 lbs and toned up. So, I'll keep you all posted
on what I am doing. I think Heather is doing Taebo too, so we'll let you know!

I am a bread and pasta lover.. When I want to lose a few pounds, I cut back on the bread. When I want to snack during the day or if I feel hungry in between meals, a glass of seltzer takes the edge off the hunger.
When I had my son, I gained over 40lbs... the doctor was really concerned about the extra weight.. I walked every day starting at 2weeks postpartum (45 mins a day) and at 6 weeks I was below my pre-pregnancy weight and he
was my 3rd baby. The doctor couldnt get believe it.. Now if only I could follow my own advise, I could lose some weight also.... Good luck girls!!

Last summer, my husband's doctor told him to cut out unneccessary sugar in his diet. We both started doing this and have both lost about 10 pounds. We switched to fructose and artificial sweetners where needed and now buy things like sugar-free cookies or jello when we want something sweet. Controlling blood sugar is another benefit for those of us ttc. Later on, too much of a sweettooth can help contribute to gestistational diabetes.
Just a tip that worked for us.

DH and I just received our motivation to start our walking program. We just received the registration form for the 11th Annual MS (Multiple Sclerosis)Walk. This year it's on May 2 and the way it works is you collect pledges from family and friends to raise money, then on walk day you walk about 9 miles. It's great fun and wonderful exercise- AND it's all for a great cause (My only sibling, my sister Audrey, is in end stage MS.). She is my inspiration and the thought of her keeps me walking when I think I'm too pooped to continue. Just thought I'd share that. Anyone else have MS walks in their community?

I just wanted to go ahead and *try* to add the link to the
DietWatch site, in case anyone missed it. For those that
didn't see my post on the board, DW has a program that will
help you keep track of your caloric intake, nutrient intake,
and exercise. It's free & it's a really nifty program.

New Year = resolution to lose weight (of course). Here's what I'm doing:
Weight Watchers point system (no meetings, just the system). Basically
there is a point range for your weight that is calculated for foods,
usually you need to look at the nutrition information panel and figure
it out with a slide ruler WW gives you, but I've found it's just as easy
to calculate it based on calories. There's a whole list of foods and
points when you do weight watchers, bread is 2 points, 1 oz of meat is
2pts, vegetables are 0 pts, lasagna is 6 points, pizza is 4 points....
they give you the books for that. I do it a little differently, I
guess.

I figure that 0-25 calories is 0 points (most veggies are about 20
calories),
25-70 calories is 1 point
70-120 calories is 2 points
120-180 calories is 3 points.

It kind of works out that every 60 calories is a point, so that's the
easiest way to do it. Now to use the points - it is based on your
current weight and the fact that you want to lose. Using this method
you should lose about 2 lbs a week safely.

Less than 150 lbs = 18-25 points a day
150-174 lbs = 20-27 points a day
175-19 = 22-29 points a day
200-224 = 24-31 points a day
225-250 = 26-33 points a day
250 and over = 28-35 points a day

I weight 135 so my range is 18-25 points a day. When you are pg or TTC
you want to either add 5 points to your range or just stay at the high
end of your range (which is what I do). So I generally try to eat 25
points a day.

A typical day for me is:
Breakfast:
Decaf coffee with Cream = 1 point
Cereal with skim milk = 3 points

Lunch
Frozen meal (like budget gourmet or michelenas) = 5 points
Milk (skim) = 1 point

Dinner
Very large salad (lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes) = 0 points
2 oz Turkey/Chicken/Tuna or some meat = 6 points
(or a plate of pasta with red sauce = 6 points)
Salad dressing = 3 points

Snack
2 Chocolate Graham crackers = 6 points

That brings me to the high end of my points, but with exercise it should
still help lose weight.
